Professor Mary Ellen Carter studies executive compensation and corporate governance.  She is a CPA and, prior to her academic career, worked for Coopers and Lybrand in Boston as a senior audit associate. Professor Carter’s recent research includes investigations of the effect of stock-option repricing on employee turnover, gender pay gaps for female executives, as well as the influences of compensation consultants and labor markets on the level of CEO pay. Her research has been published in leading academic journals including Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, the Accounting Review, the Review of Accounting Studies, and the Journal of Financial Economics.  In addition, her research has been featured in CNN.com, Forbes, Financial Times, Sloan Management Review, the Boston Herald and other business media.
