From galas to business conferences, The Great Hall at Messina College (formerly the Dane Estate) is an excellent venue for all types of private functions. We will work with you to make any event of yours a success.

Indoor Spaces


The Library

Off the foyer is the elegant Library with shelves filled with many books from the Dane family’s library. The room showcases original hand-crafted artistry such as matchbook paneling of Circassian walnut paneling, high Moorish arcading along the ceiling, and period-style furnishings. It is an ideal space for small receptions, cocktail hours, and ceremonies.

The Great Hall

In The Great Hall, a carved double staircase descends to a large room with oak-paneled walls set below a beamed and gilt ceiling, jutting stone casement windows, and teak flooring. Doors open to a gorgeous Gardens. Adding to the grandeur, the room hosts a fireplace and the pipes of an organ (the rest of which was donated in 1956 after a fire devestated Eliot Church in Newton Center).

The Foyer

The Foyer

The grand entrance to the estate, the Foyer is perfect for pre-­function cocktails and event registration. Guests will admire the massive rustic granite and polished red marble fireplace, dark oak paneling, high ceilings, and carved gilt detail.  The original paired French doors lead out onto the adjacent terrace overlooking the beautiful grounds and the pond.

Outdoor Spaces


The Gardens

The Gardens is enhanced by spectacular rhododendron hedges. The sweeping lawn is well suited to large outdoor gatherings and is a beautiful location for a tented event.

Private Event Rates

May through October

Monday - Friday (events must start at 7 p.m. and end by 11 p.m.): $3,300
Saturday: $6,000 (Saturdays and Holiday Weekends)
Sunday: $5,000 (Non-Holiday)

November through April

Monday - Friday (events must start at 7 p.m. and end by 11 p.m.): $2,800
Saturday: $4,600 (Saturdays and Holiday Weekends)
Sunday: $3,900 (Non-Holiday)

Site Fees Include:

Historic setting with 45 acres of wooded estate for photography.
One private dressing room.    
Five hours of guest time, two hours of set up and one hour of breakdown time.
One hour wedding rehearsal prior to event day at agreeable time.
Complimentary parking.
Tables and chairs owned by the estate

All events must conclude by 11:00 p.m.
