It all started with University Trustee David Griffith ’68 and Janet Griffith, who pledged $50,000 to challenge former varsity athletes and the entire Boston College community to give back to their favorite teams.
“We’re passionate BC sports fans,” says David Griffith. “We know that our varsity athletes and alumni are some of the most competitive people out there, and they understand how funding impacts their teams. We wanted to inspire them to get involved by giving back.”

The Results
Ultimately, the results were phenomenal: 1,404 former student-athletes gave back during #SupportYourSport, a significant increase from last year’s participation rate. Over 450 Boston College alumni, current students, and Newton College alumnae as well as 1,929 parents and friends donated for the first time ever. And 545 Graduates of the Last Decade gave throughout the course of the week.
“It was a great competition,” says Martin Jarmond. “But the prize is knowing that you—our alumni, parents, and friends—are behind us and willing to invest in the future of our programs. This challenge shows just how passionate you are for your teams, and we are so grateful for your ongoing support.”
