Dear alumni, parents, and friends,
Three decades ago, members of Boston College's Jesuit community shared six propositions to stimulate conversation about the University's mission. Included was the belief that, as a Jesuit university, we are called to demonstrate "concern for the good of those communities, local and global, of which we are a part."
I found myself thinking about this over the weekend as I read the many thoughtful responses to our announcement that BC's students were heading home early and quite unexpectedly. So many of our alumni, parents and friends expressed concern for students who have been displaced and shared heartfelt sentiments of support and compassion. This struck me as nothing less than an outpouring of Cura Personalis, a demonstration of the Jesuit imperative to care for the whole person and, by extension, our communities on campus and in the wider world.
Inspired by this groundswell, I write today to share the news that we will be shifting this Wednesday's Day of Giving to a Day of Caring. On March 18 we will tell stories that reveal the many ways in which our students, faculty, alumni, parents and friends demonstrate care for community and we will be asking you to share your stories with us.
However you demonstrate care, let's come together virtually for a 24-hour celebration of both Cura Personalis and Cura Communitas.
Join us as we spread the news that, at Boston College, we are all #EaglesForOthers.
