Management of Mutual Funds

Topics considered may include the regulation of funds, portfolio management for funds, marketing issues, brokerage transac­tions, servicing fund shareholders, and the role of retirement plans in the mutual fund business. [ back to top ]

Investment Banking

This course will (1) provide students with an economic perspective on the investment banking industry; (2) help them develop “tools of the trade,” particularly methods of financial engineering; and (3) provide a framework for managing (attracting, developing, and retaining) human capital. Hedge Funds

The objective of this course is to broaden the student’s understanding of hedge funds and the markets in which they operate. The course pro­vides an outline for understanding the structure and operation of the different styles and strategies of hedge funds. [ back to top ]

Venture Capital

Students will learn about the various dimensions of venture capital and gain a working knowledge of the venture capital process. The course will help students understand the steps necessary to create value within the portfolio companies, and to coordinate exit strategy; understand better this popular source of capital, and help those interested in a career in an entrepreneurial company or in venture capital. Advance Topics in Investment Management

Developed by the Center for Investment Research and Management (CIRM), this applied learning curriculum allows student investment teams to compete for the opportunity to manage real portfolios. [ back to top ]

Security Analysis/Portfolio Management

This class is a continuation of the Center for Investment Research and Management (CIRM) program. Students develop analytical reports on four companies in an industry and present these reports to buy-side and sell-side security analysts for in-depth review. Participation in the CIRM program and/or Fundamental Analysis, Financial Statement Analysis, and extensive security industry experience are prerequisites for the course. [ back to top ]

International Financial Management

This course introduces students to the financial management problems of a firm operating in an international environment and the impact of foreign exchange risk on the management of a firm’s funds, including hedging strategies, managing funds flow, and the positioning of assets on a global basis. Real Estate Investment Analysis

This course is a formal presentation of the concepts fundamental to the business of the real estate enterprise. The structure of the course will be to combine the disciplines involved in the complete process of the analysis required to yield the best decisions associated with a real estate investment. Project Finance

Objective of the course is to provide students with necessary theoretical and conceptual tools for financial analyses and decision making in relation to project finance. The elective is designed for students pursu­ing careers in the corporate sector in treasury, corporate finance, or business development functions, those in investment banking, consult­ing, or engineering, and those involved in debt or equity investment decisions. Fundamental Analysis

This course will focus on cash-flow-oriented models of the valuation of the firm. Wall Street–style analytical techniques will be utilized, includ­ing the production of quarterly earnings forecasts and the development of buy/sell/hold recommendations. Topics include enterprise value, free cash flow, economic value added, risk/reward analysis, and the art of the management interview. [ back to top ]
