Welcome from Tom Wall
University Librarian, Boston College Libraries
Welcome to the Boston College Libraries. As reflected in our vision statement below, we are a service organization dedicated to continuous improvement through responsive and meaningful interactions with everyone in the Boston College community.
Guided by the Jesuit principle of formation and the University’s strategic directions, the Boston College Libraries pledge to sustain a welcoming environment founded on trust and respect. Working within such an environment will enable us to listen, respond and collaborate with the Boston College community in a process that is characterized by generosity of spirit, good humor, and creative thinking.
We, as staff of the University Libraries, work with the Boston College community as partners to create a library environment that facilitates research, scholarship and student formation. A vibrant partnership with the Boston College community is a prerequisite for building strong and relevant collections (both print and digital), integrating library services and staff into the academic life of students, and maintaining a dialogue on the critical library issues of space, programs, services.
As University Librarian, I pledge to establish an environment of open communication that encourages constructive feedback. I will seek your participation and input, so that together we can create an environment that fosters learning and collaboration, embraces the social importance of the library, and strengthens core programs and collections. I am available to attend student and departmental meetings at any time to discuss any ideas you have about improving the Boston College Libraries. I am very excited about the future of the Boston College Libraries, a future that depends on mutual collaboration.
Please feel free to contact me at tbw@bc.edu, or stop by 410 O'Neill.
Very Sincerely,
Thomas B. Wall Ph.D.
