ELIGIBILITY
Students who hold a high school diploma or General Education Diploma and have completed three or more transferable courses at a regionally accredited college or university may apply for transfer admission. College courses taken during high school or the summer immediately following high school graduation are not transferable.
The transfer admission process at Boston College is higly selective. A minimum college G.P.A. of a 3.0 is required to submit a transfer application. Increased competition in recent cycles has resulted in a mean grade point average of 3.6 among admitted students. Students most successful in our process also have strong high school records and standardized testing.
Since a record of college achievement would not be available at the time of consideration, first-semester freshmen may not apply for admission to the term beginning in January.
Students who have previously applied to Boston College must submit all new credentials and an application fee for consideration.

THE APPLICATION DEFINED
- BC Supplemental Application: Your Boston College Supplemental Application and application fee begin the application process. - The Transfer Common Application: Transfer applicants to Boston College must complete the Transfer Common Application. Please note that transfer applicants should also submit the Mid-term Grade Report and Boston College Supplemental Application forms. Be sure to complete the "Extracurricular, Personal, and Volunteer Activities" section on page 3. This enables us to learn more about the contributions you have made to your community both while in high school as well as in college. This is an opportunity for you to share with the Office of Transfer Admission those experiences that you have valued most. It also gives you an opportunity to share with us the work experiences you have had.
- Required Essay: Transfer applicants must submit one required essay. The essay topics can be found on page 4 of the Transfer Common Application.
- Transcripts: The quality of your academic achievement is one of the most important measures of your preparedness for Boston College; special consideration is given to the balance and difficulty of the program you have carried.
In addition to the official high school transcript (sent directly from the high school), official transcripts of all courses taken in all semesters at other colleges or universities must be submitted. Transcripts must be mailed from the original institution to Boston College. Faxed transcripts or transcripts issued to students are not considered official and can not be accepted.
- Standardized Testing: Applicants are required to submit official copies of either the SAT I exam or the ACT. Applicants are not able to waive this requirement on the basis of completed college coursework. Transfer applicants are not required to submit SAT Subject Tests. It is the responsibility of each applicant to have test scores sent directly to Boston College from the College Entrance Examination Board or the American College Testing Program. Students for whom English is a second language must also submit TOEFL examination results that are no more than two years old. If more than 5 years has passed since an applicant's graduation from high school, the standardized testing requirements can be waived. Boston College's code numbers are: SAT - 3083; ACT - 1788
- TOEFL Examination: The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Exam is required of all international students whose native language is not primarily English. For more information, please refer to the International Transfer Student page. Even if a non-native English speaker has taken courses in English, the TOEFL requirement is mandatory.
- Instructor Evaluation: An instructor's recommendation is helpful in assessing your academic achievement and your contributions to your school. Complete the personal information section and submit it to a college professor or instructor who has recently taught you in an academic subject. Applicants who have been out of school for more than one year may present this form to an advisor or employer for completion.
- College Official's Report: This report is necessary to assess your citizenship and personal standing at ALL of the institution(s) you have attended on a full-time basis. Complete the personal information section and submit it to the Dean of Students at each institution you have attended full-time. Be sure to provide your signature in the proper place, as this will authorize the release of information regarding your disciplinary record. If you have a mark on your disciplinary record, we strongly urge you to submit a separate statement explaining the circumstances of the incident. The completed form must be sent directly to Boston College by the evaluator. Failure to submit all required Dean's Forms will prevent your application from being reviewed.
- Mid-Term Grade Report Form: This form enables us to assess your academic performance during the semester in progress. Circulate the form to each of the professors who have you in class for the current semester. It is not imperative that you have completed mid-term exams to complete the form. We are more interested in the grades you have earned at the time of application. Return the completed form to the Office of Transfer Admission by the application deadline. Click here to download a
copy of this form. (Adobe Reader required)
